Nevada Motorcycle Accident in Reno

Motorcycle accident No Comments »

Motorcycle accidents are common in Nevada, and grow more common as the summer bike season gets underway. Here is an example of a recent Nevada motorcycle accident, this one in Reno, Nevada. According to the report, a vehicle turned in front of the motorcycle which led to the accident. The vehicle turned east down Gallaway Lane, according to the report, across the path of the biker who was heading in the northbound direction on Wrondel Way. This is over by Yori Park, on the east side of South Virginia Street near the Peppermill Resort Hotel. Fortunately the biker was said to be awake and talking when first responders arrived. He was still taken to the hospital for medical evaluation following the accident, however. This accident happened just a few days ago, on June 10th. That was Friday, and in the evening, just before 7 o’clock according to the report. The intersection was closed for some time following the accident.

Benson & Bingham are experienced motorcycle accident lawyers in Nevada. This is a particularly big area of the country for motorcycle riders and rallies, from Street Vibrations in Reno and Sparks to pleasure trips through the Las Vegas Strip, over the Grand Canyon, and more, many bikers on the road means many motorcycle accidents.

“Many of the motorcycle cases seen by Benson & Bingham arise from vehicles pulling in front of the motorcycle, vehicles tailgating or crowding a motorcycle, or vehicles not being able to see the cyclist. The consequences of an accident can be fatal and often cause severe road rash. The pain endured by a motorcyclist at the emergency room while doctors take a wire brush to scrape and remove rocks, pebbles and debris is unfathomable. Unfortunately, heavy scaring or plastic surgery and extensive physical therapy often follow.

As riders of both street and dirt bikes, Attorneys Ben Bingham and Joseph Benson respect and understand the obstacles often presented to motorcycle operators. Most riders take extreme precaution, as the risk associated with motorcycles is well understood. Since motorcycles allow good maneuverability, often times the fault is due to another motorist’s lack of attention or outright negligence, including DUI and DWI motorists.

If you or a loved one has been injured while operating a motorcycle, contact Benson & Bingham. We can provide the legal expertise and assistance needed to ensure your medical bills are paid and you receive deserved compensation for your pain and suffering from the cycling injury.”

Motorcycle accidents happen in Reno often. In early October, a motorcycle accident at S. Virginia St. and W. McCarran Ave. A Kia Sportage headed north on S. Virginia, the Sportage hit the motorcycle that was travelling on McCarran headed west. Two individuals were riding the motorcycle at the time of the crash.  Another accident happened in the area after the motorcycle crash when two motorists failed to pay attention to the road when distracted by the crash. Police and the coroner’s office have not released as to whether the driver of the Kia or the people riding the motorcycle were injured.
Bike collisions in Northern Nevada, and across the nation, are significantly more deadly than automobile accidents. The driver and passenger on a motorcycle are not protected by the body of an automobile in a crash, in fact modern automobiles have airbags, collapsible steering wheels and even crumple zones that help to protect a car’s occupants. In addition, a rider on a motorcycle does not have a seat belt to prevent him or her from being thrown by the force of the accident. In fact, someone on a motorcycle is 35 times more probable to be be involved in an accident that a passenger vehicle. 88,000 people were hurt in motorcycle accidents in 2006

Highway Patrol officers are on the lookout for a driver who was involved in a deadly Reno motorcycle accident that happened in early July. NHP suspect that a Subaru WRX hit a Reno man, Stephen Hobbs, 51, while he was riding his motorcycle. The accident happened just after noon on Saturday, July 11th in the vicinity of the Cold Springs off ramp on Highway 395. Mr. Hobbs was travelling Northward on Interstate 395 in the same direction as the Subaru WRX was headed. In the accident, the Subaru hit the motorcycle in the Washoe County motorbike crash. Mr. Hobbs was thrown from his motorcycle in the accident, and was rushed to Renown hospital with injuries that were considered critical. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Mr. Hobbs later passed away at Renown Hospital. Mr. Hobbs, a California corrections officer, was driving a KTM motorcycle at the time of the accident.

Investigators are thinking that the Subaru WRX in the accident was from 2010. The Japanese built vehicle may have damage to the right front (passenger) fender and side. NHP have leads that the Subaru is painted silver and the license plates on the car are of the Nevada sunset variety. The Cold Springs sports bike collision is being investigated as a road rage accident.

motorbike accidentRoad rage is considered a significant factor in automobile accidents across the United States. 2/3rds of all US traffic deaths are the result of driving aggressively and just over 1/3rd of aggressive driving accidents have a gun involved. Statistics show that men under 19 are the biggest demographic in road rage accidents. The term road rage was coined by a Los Angeles television station when multiple highway shooting accidents happened on LA freeways. Road rage is defined as when a traffic accident happens when multiple road infractions occur that endanger or harm people or property. Half of all drivers report that they respond to aggressive driving with aggressive actions on their own. Those behaviors include rude gestures, tailgating and even horn honking. In seven years, over 12,000 people were injured in road rage incidents and approximately 220 people were killed. Even more frightening, 2% of drivers admit to attempting to drive someone off the road.

Motorcycle Accidents Rise in Reno During Street Vibrations

Accident, Motorcycle accident No Comments »

Extra patrols were out this past weekend to prevent motorcycle accidents in Reno, among any number of other possible negative outcomes, as the annual Street Vibrations Motorcycle Rally came through town. This is a great event often times, both for the attendees and for Reno’s economy. Unfortunately, it also happens that it brings with it a number of injuries, altercations, accidents, and sometimes deaths. With as many as 50,000 additional people visiting the area for the festival, roads become crowded with vehicles that are sometimes harder to spot than regular cars or trucks, despite the noise. There can and have also been a number of bad actors – people here for the festival that drive too fast, recklessly, or are driving drunk in Nevada. Since motorcycle accidents are often the most deadly of traffic accidents, the rally can bring its fair share of fatal Reno motorcycle crashes, as well. Seeing as it’s not too difficult to get out of the city or the city feel, there are also a number of other types of accidents, such as at the festival the year before this one a motorcycle rider hit a horse and was killed.
Even without the extra load capacity of that many bikers in town, motorcycle accidents in Southern Nevada and Northern Nevada are all too common. We have a lot of things that are attractive to bikers, and therefore quite a number of them on our roads. We here at Benson & Bingham know just how devastating Northern Nevada motorcycle crashes can be. We’ve helped a number of people recover from them, and families move on after the death of a loved one. While it is easy to have a bad accident on a bike, getting properly compensated for those injuries or the death of a loved one can be difficult. Sometimes there is a bias to blame the motorcyclist for the accident. We here at Benson & Bingham know how to make judges, juries, and insurance claims agents see beyond the stereotype of the biker and take claims and settlements seriously. Reno Vehicle Pile-Up Injures 7

Accidents and Injuries in the News, Car Accident, Motorcycle accident No Comments »

A very bad multi-vehicle accident in Reno today involved all types and sizes of motorized transport, including a motorcycle, a cement mixer truck, and seems like everything in between. As many as seven people were said to have been taken to the hospital with all types of injuries, including toddler. No deaths are fortunately being reported that we have seen, which is positive, at least. However, the fallout from this accident remains far from determined now. The injured child, for instance, said to have suffered some kind of a head trauma, which is never positive news for adults, much less children. The six other people said to be injured as well in this chain reaction car crash in Reno’s Golden Valley area.

Chain reaction collisions like this can be really, really damaging to life and property. They can also be tricky to investigate and determine a specific fault and negligence, at least for those unfamiliar with them. Benson & Bingham’s experienced multi-vehicle car crash attorneys in Northern Nevada understand that traffic rules of thumb, like the person at the back of the accident is at fault, are not hard and fast rules nor set in stone depending on the unique circumstances. That’s why Benson & Bingham offers free consultations so you can tell us the individual circumstance of your accident and injury, like a multiple car crash in Reno, and we can help you determine your legal options and rights.

For example, there is the early speculation of the Nevada Highway Patrol, via Trooper David Gibson at the scene, that the accident started with a cement mack truck hitting a passenger vehicle from behind, and the Chevy being shoved off the road and into the guardrail. What happened next is anyone’s guess. If you’re in the middle of the pack of injuries it can be especially hard to initially get an insurance company to take responsibility. They may claim secondary negligence or contributory negligence and drag you back and forth on your own. That’s why you need lawyers like Benson & Bingham. Contact us today for a free consultation to talk about your involvement and injury in a multi-vehicle pile-up in Reno.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Carson City

Accident, Car Accident, Motorcycle accident No Comments »

A motorcycle accident in Carson City has claimed the lives of the two people who were on the motorcycle, according to recent reports of the accident. One of them passed away this last Sunday after being on life support, the other, a 21 year old female and resident of South Lake Tahoe, died last Wednesday. She was a passenger on the motorcycle, a Suzuki, driven by the 21 year old male who passed away Sunday. He had been on life support, and then was placed back on life support. The reason for this was that his organs were giving out off of the life support system, and the young man’s wishes were to donate his organs. He was placed back on so that that could be completed, and then removed again from life support and allowed to pass away. He had been there since the Carson City motorcycle accident on March 22nd. The incident occurred a little before 11 in the evening, where Fairview and Roop meet. The bike the young man was driving hit a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup, a 60 year old man from Gardnerville, was not injured in the accident.

Little is known about the young woman who passed, at least according to recent stories on this fatal motorcycle accident in Northern Nevada. The young man was a University of Nevada, Reno, student, and a member of the school’s band. A tenor sax player, he had been with the marching band for coming up on two years, according to the leader of the band. Little else is known, or at least being reported, about the accident. We don’t know if it was a case of driving under the influence or speeding in Nevada, nor do we have an inkling yet of who might be at fault. The Nevada Highway Patrol is continuing to look for answers.

Vehicle Accident Leaves One Injured in Reno

Accident, Car Accident, Motorcycle accident, personal injury No Comments »

Motorcycles have been in the news a lot lately. We wrote recently about a bill in the Nevada State Legislature that would have allowed motorcycles to share or “split” lanes with cars when traffic was moving slowly, which was aimed at reducing low speed auto injury accidents in Northern Nevada. Unfortunately, the recent news is on the other end of the safety spectrum, with reports of a recent motorcycle accident in Reno that left the rider with multiple injuries. The rider was initially reported to be in critical condition, but is currently in stable condition, at least as of last reports, after being transported to Renown Hospital by personnel from the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA). Have you been injured in a motorcycle or car accident in Reno? Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law will talk over possible legal actions with you free of charge – call us today.

The accident in question occurred when a deputy sheriff from the Washoe County Office gave initial pursuit to a motorcycle the sheriff observed speeding recklessly. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, putting on his lights and attempting to catch the speeding motorcycle. However, when the motorcyclist sped up to speeds thought to be over 100 miles per hour, the sheriff’s deputy stopped in his hot pursuit due to the possible safety issues regarding other motorists on the freeway. The deputy did continue after the motorcyclist, but not at chase speeds nor with his emergency lights on, according to some reports. A short time later, troopers found what is thought to be the same motorcycle, a 2004 Honda CBR 600 F4, color red, crashed with the driver having been thrown from the bike. It was assumed, based on physical evidence at the crash site, that a hard right hand curve in the roadway was not handled properly by the driver of the motorcycle, leading him to bang into the guardrail and throw the rider from his bike, leading to his injuries. The accident occurred around 9:30 pm in the evening in the Panther Valley area of Reno, on the exit ramp from US 395 onto North Virginia St. If you’re injured in a vehicle accident in Washoe County, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can take care of your case while you take care of healing; call us today for a free consultation.
