We see plenty of airplane accidents in Nevada as we write about frequently on our Las Vegas injury and accident blog. We see air accidents up here in Northern Nevada as well, just perhaps not as frequently. We see plenty of car accidents in both Southern Nevada and Northern Nevada. What we don’t often see is an accident involving an airplane and vehicle, much less one where no one was killed. But that’s exactly what happened just a few days ago as an airplane made an emergency landing on Pyramid Highway, where it caused a vehicle accident and four reportedly minor injuries. Considering how most plane crashes end, these folks are lucky to be alive. That doesn’t mean the injuries don’t turn out to be more serious, long lasting, and expensive. That’s why savvy individuals make sure to call top Nevada injury lawyers Benson & Bingham right away after an accident. The sooner we get on the case the more likely you are to receive a very favorable outcome – how things are handled early in the process makes a big difference. This Nevada airplane and vehicle accident occurred on July 26, just a few days ago. An experimental small airplane, said to be a type of Thunder Mustang, began losing power shortly after taking off from Stead Airport. The plane, on its way to South Dakota, had to make an emergency landing at the nearest workable landing strip, in this case, Nevada Route 445 on a somewhat remote stretch 30 minutes or so north of Reno. It was at this time that the plane struck a truck that was on the road, causing injuries to the two people in the truck as well as the two people in the airplane. There is no word on whether the airplane pilot will be given a Nevada speeding ticket for excess speed on the roadway!

As we often write on our sister blog for Benson & Bingham’s top accident attorneys in Las Vegas, wearing your seatbelt is critical to getting away from almost any accident as minimally damaged as possible. The number and type of accidents where a seatbelt would hurt is a tiny fraction compared to the number where it has or would help or has helped in dozens of accidents that we’ve looked into. Today we have another potential example of that as we see an accident in Northern Nevada, in Gardnerville, where a single vehicle accident left one elderly woman dead. The woman, as we so went out of our way to disguise, was not wearing her seatbelt. That was at least according to a trooper for the Nevada Highway Patrol, one David Gibson.

There is not a whole lot to tell about this car accident south of Reno, at least not yet. The fatal vehicle wreck happened yesterday in the middle of the afternoon. For as yet unknown reasons the 95 year old woman driving the vehicle, a Kio Rio Hunter, went off the highway and struck the wall on the side 580 before striking the other wall and finally coming to a rest.
Fully 20 vehicles were involved in one chain reaction car crash in Northern Nevada earlier today. Fortunately, early reports are that no one was seriously injured. Early reports from the scene indicate, however, that at least eight people suffered injury from this crash, which reportedly was started by a commercial vehicle negligence in Washoe County. One woman was said to have been airlifted to the hospital. However, this woman was not reported to have been involved in the accident itself, she was just in the middle of pregnancy labor and in need of professional obstetric care. As you can imagine, a 20 car accident near Reno closed down the highway completely in one direction (Interstate 80 in the western direction, to the east of Sparks). Both lanes of the freeway were closed for over three hours, with the full freeway not reopening for roughly five hours after the crash. If you were in labor and stuck in that kind of a traffic snarl, you’d probably need a helicopter to get you to the hospital, too! She was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno. Again, as far as we’ve heard thus far, the vehicle she was in was not involved in the accident.
The cause of the crash is said to have been a commercial truck negligence in Northern Nevada. A commercial truck carrying gravel was said to have spilled all or part of its contents across the freeway. This created the havoc that saw 8 people injured across a 20 vehicle span. Though have been reported to be minor injuries, they’re still injuries. You can just imagine how gravel spilling across the freeway would cause some drivers to lose control, in turn causing other drivers to lose control trying to avoid them. Stopped traffic then getting struck from behind by vehicles who were either not paying attention momentarily, did not have the time to react, or were speeding in Nevada.
