Reno Man Killed in Interstate 80 Pedestrian Accident

While Las Vegas pedestrian accidents have plagued Nevada’s largest city in 2012, the streets of Reno and the rest of Washoe County have been relatively safe this year. There are some Reno pedestrian deaths that defy explanation, however. On Monday, October 29th, an unidentified man ran across Interstate 80 in Reno near Rock Blvd. The man was struck and killed after being hit by a truck that was travelling within accepted speed limits on the highway.

The driver of the truck that hit the pedestrian running across the super highway is a Nevada Highway Patrol Officer. The officer, who was driving a personal vehicle, was tested at the scene for alcohol and drug intoxication, and was deemed to not have been driving under the influence. Due to a potential conflict of interest, the Nevada Highway Patrol has ceded jurisdiction over the accident, and it is now under investigation by the Reno Police Department.
