In the middle of the night on a mid-November evening, the majority of the residents of Caughlin Ranch were asleep, getting needed rest for themselves to head to their jobs the next day. Then, early in the morning of November 18th, around midnight, a tree branch was blown by high winds onto a power line, which quickly caught the desert sagebrush that surrounds the exclusive enclave on fire. The fire that raged through the tony community eventually destroyed 28 houses and damaged 15 more. In addition, one person was killed during the fire. The Caughlin Ranch fire eventually burned over 2,000 acres in the Western areas of Reno and Washoe County. The fire spread quickly due to particularly dry Reno fall weather and high winds. Fire fighters battling the blaze originally had difficulties containing the fire. Reno fire officials stated that embers and would light additional sections of the countryside as fire teams had contained fires in other areas. Because of the Caughlin fire, 16 people were rushed to area hospitals. Had it not been for a Reno snowstorm on November 19th, the fire may have continued to burn out of control. As snow begins to fall across Reno, Washoe County and the rest of Northern Nevada, drivers are cautioned to slow down and allow more time to get to their destinations. Other precautions drivers can take to reduce the likelihood of them being in a Reno automobile accident include clearing windows and mirror completely, always carrying chains and even placing a 10-lb bag of sand in their trunk. None of these precautions can prevent a driver from being hit by another vehicle on the road, however.
Yesterday’s snow storm brought a number of vehicle accidents in Washoe County. A 5-car accident near Lake Tahoe resulted in one person being rushed to a hospital. Another 4-car pile-up resulted in minor injuries. In addition, snow plows clipped numerous side view mirrors. Many other cars were involved in single car accidents, sliding off the road and either causing minor damage to themselves or property.
Much of the snow from yesterday’s storm has already melted across Reno and long term forecasts show little snow expected for the rest of the month of November. This can give motorists across Northern Nevada the opportunity to get snow tires put on their vehicles, inspect snow chains to ensure they are still intact and even purchase a sandbag for their trunk. IF you were involved in a weather related Northern Nevada car crash this weekend, NV-attorney.com can help you recover financially from the accident.

Many Northern Nevadans and Californians were disappointed this week when Hurricane Sandy forced the delay of a report many have been waiting patiently for. Yesterday, the National Safety Transportation Board had to postpone the previously scheduled hearing to announce the causes that lead to the horrific Reno Amtrak crash from last June. In the Reno train accident last June, over 20 people were injured and 6 were killed. The crashed happened when a Semi Truck sped through warning barriers as a west bound Amtrak train crossed North US 95. If you or a relative has been injured or killed in a Reno commercial vehicle accident, NV-attorney can help you recover financially for them catastrophe.
One of the reasons the NTSB report concerned so many involved in the crash is that in August a federal judge, Valerie Cooke, granted motions by John Davis Trucking Company. The company, which owned the truck involved in the crash, maintains that safety features intended to alert drivers of an oncoming train were not working the day of the crash. John Davis Trucking attorneys state that oncoming train flashing lights and gate crossing arm malfunctioned at the time of the crash. The company’s lawyers even attest that Amtrak employees destroyed evidence of the malfunctions that led to the Reno semi-truck crash.
