Pedestrian Injury Accidents is Focus of Reno Police Strategy

Pedestrians, according to a sergeant from the Reno Police department, don’t necessarily need to cross the street at marked crosswalks. That will not, however, prevent pedestrians from being involved in an auto, truck, motorcycle, bus or taxi accident in Northern Nevada. If you’re in Reno and involved in a motor vehicle accident and need a lawyer, call Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law. We’ve spent decades getting clients who were involved in accidents the compensation they needed to move on with their lives.

Pedestrians are at an increased risk of serious injury when they are crossing the street. While you can cross and have legal right away at any crosswalk, and can legally cross at any point mid-block as long as you walk straight across the street, just because you have the right of way doesn’t mean a guarantee of your safety, said the Reno Police Department spokesman. He cautioned that, even if you’re not at fault as a pedestrian in a car accident in Reno, Sparks, or anywhere in Northern Nevada, it won’t make the accident any less painful or your injuries less severe. If you’re in an accident in Reno where you’re injured, or a loved one is, contact Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law for a free consultation. We will use our legal expertise and experience to get you the coverage and compensation you need.

This same spokesman for the Reno Police mentioned that the Department will be leading at least three stings to catch people breaking the law at marked crosswalks in Reno this summer. This will include misdemeanors for jaywalking in addition to ticketing drivers failing to stop for a pedestrian in Reno.  They are doing these stings to make drivers more aware of pedestrians and stopping to give them the right of way. They hope this enforcement strategy will cut down on the number of pedestrian-involved car accidents in Northern Nevada.
